New Beta Installer for OpenERP 6.0

Hi all,

This post to discuss about the new Windows Installers [1] and some improvements and because I would like to have a feedback.

If you are looking for the installers for the server and the clients, you will find them if you uncompress the "All In One" ;-)

Attention: This installer only contains the base addon because it's just a test for feedback.

1. We use the profiles
We propose some profiles:

All In One: Will install the Server and the Clients and/or the PostgreSQL database
Server: Will install the Server and/or the PostgreSQL database
GTK Client
Web Client
Custom

2. Each installer is independent
For the uninstallation, we don't uninstall the PostgreSQL database.
With this feature, you can upgrade your OpenERP installation without to uninstall the PostgreSQL database and therefore without making a backup of the databases.

Result: You can upgrade the OpenERP installation (v6.0) with the new Installer (6.0.0 -> 6.0.1)

Even if the All In One is installed, you can separately upgrade the Clients or the Server and the addons to a new version

2.1. Registry Structure

Each component of the AllInOne Installer has its own structure in the registry of Windows.
With this improvement, you can upgrade the AllInOne 6.0.0 to 6.0.1 without to uninstall the previous installer.

2.2. Directory Structure

For this version, there is a new directory structure, with this new structure, it's possible to install OpenERP 5.0 and >= 6.0

   \Server
   \Client
   \Web
   \PostgreSQL

3. PostgreSQL is optional

If PostgreSQL is installed on the system, the user can't select the "Install PostgreSQL database" section, but can configure the connection to the PostgreSQL server

The installation of the server will propose a screen for the configuration of PostgreSQL.

The release of OpenERP 5.0.15 is delayed of one week

I know that you are waiting for the new minor release of OpenERP 5.0.15, but we detected a bug in the printing of the workflows. We have a patch for that, but I prefer check it on Python 2.4 and Windows.

OpenERP 5.0.15 will be released during the next week.

The Loempia Project

Hi all,

I want to talk about a personal project for OpenERP. This project is Loempia.
Loempia will be the official repository for the modules of OpenERP, it allows to share the modules with the community.

Why Loempia?

Currently, the community and OpenERP S.A. use LaunchPad to share the modules of OpenERP.
The problem with this way of working is that we don't know where a module is and if this module is up to date or not. Where are the certified modules ? etc...

I think Loempia can help everybody, because it will be the main repository for the modules of OpenERP.
With Loempia, you will have the capability to share your modules and comments. You could use the tag and rating systems.

You will have the capability to make some searchs with some specific criteria.

You will be able to look for the modules for the accounting for the
version 5.0 of a specific contributor.

Do you want the certified modules for OpenERP 6.0, a small search on Loempia and
you will get the results.

I think it's a very useful site and not only a marketing tool!

Why don't you want to use PyPi?

PyPi is a very cool site if you want to share a python module, it's very useful
and it works fine. But it's a technical site. Yes, we could use it to store the
openerp's modules and after, what? You could show the best contributors, the
most downloaded modules, and promote modules with screenshots.

Some features of Loempia:

You could select a module of a given contributor.
You could select a module for a specific version of OpenERP.
How can I get the certified modules? Are these modules updated.

I hope that Loempia will help OpenERP, the Community and the developers.

User / Authentication system (OpenID, you will be able to connect with your LaunchPad ID account)

New Release of OpenERP 5.0.12

Hi,

We have the pleasure to announce a new revision of OpenERP 5.0.

This release contains lots of bug fixes which you can find in this brief summary.

Security Bugfixes for Stable 5.0.11

Hello all,

During the last month or so we worked on fixing outstanding potential sql injection vectors in the server [1] and various addons [2].
These branches are currently in my launchpad account [3] and we're planning on merging them into stable with 5.0.11.

They should be stable, but we might have introduced a few bugs (or missed a few vectors), would it be possible that you test them and report back?

Windows Installer of the GTK Client for OpenERP 5.2-dev

We have released a Windows Installer of the GTK Client for OpenERP 5.2-dev, this package is based on the revision 1190 [1] of the Trunk branch [2].

This version only works with the trunk version of OpenERP server.
Do not use it with a stable (5.0) server or instead of a stable client.

You can find the installer in the 'Downloads' section of the OpenERP website [3]

As always, bugs should be reported on the GTK client's Launchpad [4]

Improvement for the win-installer-trunk

With the version 5.0.0-alpha of OpenERP, there is a new branch with all dependencies, to create a new installer for Windows from scratch.

But there were some problems with the dependencies, especially
pydot, reportlab, pychart and pytz.

I created an unofficial installer for pydot 1.0.2 and pytz 2008i.

Also, don't forget that there is a bug in the matplotlib 0.9.3 package. I repeat, this bug does not come from OpenERP. There is a bug report for this version, and I expect a new version with the fix.
Don't panic, because there is a small fix in my installers :-)

The new major version of OpenERP contains a new installer for Windows

It checks if there is a previous installation of OpenERP

If there is a previous installation of PostgreSQL, does not overwrite the current installation

this installer comes with PostgreSQL 8.3

You can install only one instance of each component (Client, Server)

You will find three installers

Client Installer

Server Installer

All In One Installer : this version contains the client, the server (with all addons) and the PostgreSQL database

You can download it at this address and send your bug report to LaunchPad

I want to explain you how to get the trunk version of OpenERP from Launchpad with Bazaar.

For the community, if you want to get the source, there is a public access to the repository.


$> mkdir projects
$> cd projects

Get a clone of each repository


$> bzr clone lp:~openerp/openobject-server/trunk server
$> bzr clone lp:~openerp/openobject-client/trunk client
$> bzr clone lp:~openerp/openobject-client-web/trunk client-web
$> bzr clone lp:~openerp/openobject-addons/trunk addons

Link the addons to the server


$> ln -s addons/* server/bin/addons

If you want to get a clone of the extra-addons repository, you can execute this command

I would like to speak about a very small patch than I committed on trunk. This patch helps to define the row's height for each column dynamically in the reporting system.

Before, If you want to define an height you have to specify a value in the rowHeights parameter of a blockTable.

So as you can see, the problem comes from the rowHeights parameter where you have to specify the height of each row.
